The Yardangs Of Mars
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
These long, sculpted ridges on Mars are called yardangs, a term geologists use for wind-eroded landforms. They are common in desert regions on Earth as well as on Mars. This image, released by the Mars Global Surveyor, shows yardangs in the eastern Aeolis region of the Red Planet. They are evidence of wind activity shaping the Martian surface.
