BZ Cam is a binary star system that scientists do not fully understand. Unlike typical cataclysmic variables, where matter from a normal star accumulates on a white dwarf, BZ Cam's light flickers unpredictably. It also expels an unusually large wind of particles, which creates the large bow shock seen here as the system moves through interstellar space.
