This is what Earth looks like at night, highlighted by human-made lights. City lights reveal particularly developed or populated areas, like the seaboards of Europe, the eastern United States, and Japan. Many large cities are near rivers or oceans for inexpensive goods exchange. Central South America, Africa, and Asia appear as dark areas.
