Microwave Hotspots: The Oldest Structures Known

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

These are the oldest structures we know, seen as temperature variations in the microwave sky by NASA's COBE satellite. They represent the early universe, about a million years after the Big Bang, when matter began to clump together. The images show these microwave hotspots, north and south of our galaxy's equator. COBE's four years of data confirmed these ancient structures.
