NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

This false-color image from the Chandra X-ray Observatory shows the fading afterglow of a gamma-ray burst. This cosmic explosion, called GRB010222, originated in a galaxy billions of light-years away. The BeppoSAX satellite detected it on February 22. While the gamma-ray burst was visible for only a few seconds, its afterglow was tracked for days by x-ray, optical, infrared, and radio instruments.
