Another Comet LINEAR Breaks Up
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
Comet LINEAR C/2001 A2, first observed by the Lincoln Near Asteroid Research telescope, unexpectedly brightened in 2001. Its nucleus broke into two pieces, and then one of those fragments broke again. This image shows the first piece that broke off. Comets can be quite fragile as they approach the Sun.
