Close-up of the Face on Mars
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
This close-up image shows a rock mesa on Mars, famously known as the "Face on Mars." Earlier, lower-resolution images led some to speculate about artificial structures. However, clearer views, like this one, reveal it to be a natural geological formation. Mars Global Surveyor provided the data for this image, showing the natural erosion of the Martian landscape.
