Crescent Neptune and Triton
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
Voyager 2 looked back at Neptune in 1989, capturing the giant planet and its moon Triton as crescents. From this unique vantage point, the sunlight scattered forward, giving Neptune a reddish hue instead of its familiar blue. We could not have taken this picture from Earth, as Neptune never shows a crescent phase to our planet.
