NASA's Helios aircraft, a solar-powered and remotely piloted plane, is pictured here at 10,000 feet above Kauai, Hawaii. This ultralight, propeller-driven aircraft is essentially a flying wing with 14 electric engines. Its impressive 247-foot-wide wing, covered with solar cells, exceeds the wing span and overall length of a Boeing 747 jet airliner.
