Spiral Galaxy NGC 3310 Across the Visible
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
Spiral galaxy NGC 3310 experienced a tremendous burst of star formation about 100 million years ago, likely due to a collision with a smaller galaxy. This Hubble Space Telescope composite image was used to determine the ages of the many star clusters that resulted from this event. The changing gravity from the collision compressed gas clouds, triggering the star-forming activity.
