Sher 25: A Pending Supernova?

NASA APOD · W. Brandner (UIUC), et al., ESO, 1.54-m Telescope, Chile
COSMIC MESSAGE

No supernova has ever been predicted, but Sher 25 might be the first. This blue supergiant star is located near the star cluster NGC 3603. It is surrounded by an hourglass-shaped nebula, similar to the one around the star Eta Carinae, which is also expected to explode soon.
