COSMIC MESSAGE
LDN 43, the Cosmic Bat Nebula, is a molecular cloud about 1,400 light-years away in Ophiuchus. It is dense enough to block light from background stars and from the nearby reflection nebula LBN 7. This twelve light-year-long filament of gas and dust resembles a vast cosmic bat.
