Anticrepuscular Rays Over Colorado

NASA APOD · John Britton
COSMIC MESSAGE

Anticrepuscular rays are parallel rays of sunlight that appear to converge at a point opposite the sun. They are similar to crepuscular rays, which appear to radiate from the sun. Both are formed when sunlight passes through gaps in clouds, but anticrepuscular rays are seen looking away from the sun. This image shows these rays over Colorado, created by a setting sun and well-placed clouds.
