The Sun is constantly throwing particles and plasma outward in the solar wind. However, observations from the LASCO instrument on the SOHO spacecraft show that material also flows back toward the Sun. This 'coronal inflow' starts over 2 million kilometers above the Sun's visible surface. It is difficult to detect against the stronger outflowing solar corona.
