A Leonids Star Field

NASA APOD · Sherry Buttnor
COSMIC MESSAGE

The 2001 Leonids Meteor Shower was the most active since the mid-1960s. This photo captures three meteors streaking across a star-filled sky. On the far right is the Pleiades star cluster, and the brightest meteor crosses in front of the Hyades star cluster. These meteors are tiny dust grains from Comet Tempel-Tuttle, burning up in Earth's atmosphere.
