NASA APOD · Brian Lula
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Iris Nebula, cataloged as NGC 7023, is a reflection nebula located 1,300 light-years away in the constellation Cepheus. This image shows the nebula's intricate dust and gas clouds, illuminated by a massive, hot, young star at its center. The light from the star scatters off the surrounding dust, creating the nebula's characteristic blue glow. Dark filaments of dust are also visible, silhouetted against the brighter regions.
