The Snake Nebula from CFHT

COSMIC MESSAGE
The Snake Nebula, also known as Barnard 72, is a dark cloud of gas and dust in the constellation Ophiuchus. These dark lanes absorb visible starlight, making it appear as if there are voids in the starfield. The dust grains, mostly carbon, absorb this light and re-emit it in the infrared, a wavelength our eyes cannot see.
