NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

This image from the Galileo spacecraft shows Ida, the first asteroid discovered to have a moon. Ida is a potato-shaped asteroid, about 36 miles long and 14 miles wide. Its tiny moon, Dactyl, is only about one mile across and appears as a small dot to Ida's right. This discovery provided new insights into the formation and evolution of asteroids in our solar system.
