Mare Orientale

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Mare Orientale is one of the Moon's most striking impact basins, a bull's-eye pattern over 600 miles across. It formed over 3 billion years ago from a massive asteroid impact, causing ripples in the lunar crust. This 1967 photograph from NASA's Lunar Orbiter IV shows the three concentric rings, a feature difficult to see from Earth.
