Hubble Floats Free

The Hubble Space Telescope, seen here being deployed by the Space Shuttle Columbia, orbits above Earth's atmosphere. This placement allows it to capture a wider range of the electromagnetic spectrum than ground-based telescopes can. It provides clear views of the cosmos, unaffected by atmospheric distortion. This is why observatories are put in space, despite the difficulties.
