The Supermassive Black Holes of NGC 6240
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
NGC 6240 is a pair of merging galaxies about 400 million light-years away. The collision distorts the galaxies, creating tidal tails of stars, gas, and dust, and triggering bursts of star formation. The Chandra X-ray Observatory revealed two enormous, orbiting black holes within the bright central regions of the combined galaxy.
