Open clusters of stars, like M35 and NGC 2158, form at nearly the same time and can contain hundreds to thousands of stars. M35, in the upper left, is relatively nearby at 2800 light years and young at 150 million years old, with about 2500 stars spread across 30 light years. NGC 2158 is older, more compact, and farther away.
