Wisps of the Veil Nebula

NASA APOD · Astropix.com
COSMIC MESSAGE

These wisps of gas are all that remain visible of a Milky Way star that exploded thousands of years ago. The Veil Nebula, about 1,400 light-years away in Cygnus, was once as bright as a crescent moon. The expanding cloud was visible for weeks to early humans.
