In 1006 AD, a new star appeared in the sky, quickly becoming brighter than the planet Venus. This event, now known as Supernova 1006, was recorded by observers in various parts of the world, including China, Egypt, and Italy. The supernova took months to fade. Modern observations have allowed us to measure the speed of its expanding shock wave.
