Phobos: Doomed Moon of Mars

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Phobos, one of Mars's two moons, is a heavily cratered, asteroid-like object about 17 miles across. Captured by the Viking 1 orbiter in 1978, Phobos is believed to be a captured asteroid from the main belt. Its orbit is decaying, meaning it is slowly spiraling closer to Mars.
