NGC 1365: A Nearby Barred Spiral Galaxy

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

NGC 1365 is a striking barred spiral galaxy in the Fornax Cluster, with a prominent bar across its center. Our own Milky Way is thought to have a bar, though perhaps not as pronounced. The bright young blue stars and dark dust lanes indicate a strong, rotating density wave of star formation within the galaxy.
