The Solar Spectrum

COSMIC MESSAGE

The visible light from the Sun, passed through a prism-like device, reveals its spectrum. This spectrum, created at the McMath-Pierce Solar Observatory, shows that the Sun emits nearly every color, but is brightest in yellow-green. Dark lines in the spectrum are caused by gases at or above the Sun's surface absorbing specific colors.
