Disappearing Clouds in Carina
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
This dense cloud of gas and dust is located within the Carina Nebula, about 8,000 light-years away. Intense light from nearby bright stars is slowly eroding it. In a few million years, the cloud will likely be completely boiled away. This process will stop the growth of stars not yet formed within its interior. Newly formed stars nearby appear reddened because dust scatters blue light more effectively.
