COSMIC MESSAGE
This image from the Hubble Space Telescope shows the scattered debris of a supernova explosion in the Large Magellanic Cloud, cataloged as N49. These glowing filaments of shocked gas span about 30 light-years. Light from the original explosion reached Earth thousands of years ago. N49 is also the site of a gamma-ray burst detected in 1998.
