Space Rock SQ222 Noticed After Pass

NASA APOD · LONEOS, Lowell Observatory
COSMIC MESSAGE

Last month, an asteroid the size of a bus zipped past Earth, closer than a quarter of the distance to the Moon. We detected it hours after its closest approach. While such close calls are common, this one was notable for being observed, even if belatedly. Rocks this size strike Earth about once a year.
