The MODIS instrument on the Aqua satellite captured the Moon's long shadow during a solar eclipse over Antarctica. The shadow, almost 500 kilometers long, fell across the continent on November 23, 2003. The image shows the dark silhouette cast by the Moon as it passed in front of the Sun, low on the horizon.
