Io in True Color

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Io, Jupiter's innermost large moon, is the most volcanically active body in our solar system, giving it a bright yellow appearance. This true-color image was taken by the Galileo spacecraft. Io's colors come from sulfur and molten silicate rock. The intense tidal forces from Jupiter stretch and heat Io's interior, causing its widespread volcanic activity and constantly reshaping its surface.
