Cassini To Venus

COSMIC MESSAGE
The Cassini spacecraft, with its Huygens probe, launched on October 15, 1997, aboard a Titan 4B Centaur rocket. This image shows the rocket arcing away from Cape Canaveral. Cassini's journey to Saturn involved two gravity-assist flybys of Venus in April 1998 and June 1999, followed by an Earth flyby in August 1999. These maneuvers helped propel the sophisticated robot spacecraft on its 7-year, 2.2-billion-mile journey.
