The Perseid meteor shower peaks in mid-August. This photo from Quebec, Canada, shows the sky on August 1, 2002, with bright stars, green auroras, and the Milky Way. Meteors are streaks of light from cosmic dust burning up in Earth's atmosphere. The Perseids come from Comet Swift-Tuttle.
