COSMIC MESSAGE

The Large Magellanic Cloud, or LMC, is one of two dwarf irregular galaxies orbiting our Milky Way. Named after Ferdinand Magellan's crew, who studied the southern sky during their circumnavigation, the LMC is about 180,000 light-years away. It is a dynamic galaxy, actively forming new stars, and is easily visible to the naked eye from the Southern Hemisphere. This image captures its unique structure and star-forming regions.
