This is Orion in infrared light, a view from the IRAS satellite. The familiar bright stars of Orion fade into the background, while clouds of dust and gas that are usually invisible become prominent. Betelgeuse, a red supergiant, is one of the few bright stars that still stands out in this infrared landscape, glowing with heat.
