Cassiopeia A Light Echoes in Infrared
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
Cassiopeia A, a supernova remnant, appears to be changing. Two infrared images taken a year apart show outward motions at tremendous speeds. This is due to light echoes, where light from the supernova heats distant dust, causing it to glow. As time passes, more distant dust lights up, creating the illusion of outward motion.
