Analemma of the Moon

NASA APOD · Rich Richins
COSMIC MESSAGE

An analemma is the figure-8 shape traced by the Sun's position over a year. For the Moon, it's more complex because it returns to the same sky position about 51 minutes later each day. If you photograph the Moon 51 minutes later on successive days, over a lunar month, its actual position traces an analemma-like curve due to its orbital variations.
