COSMIC MESSAGE
The Perseid meteor shower, captured here by astronomer Fred Bruenjes, occurs every August as Earth passes through the dust trail of Comet Swift-Tuttle. Each streak is a grain of comet dust, burning up in our atmosphere. This composite image combines many exposures from the night of August 11/12, 2005, showing the shower's radiant point in the sky.
