The Shadow of Phobos
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
Mars's moon Phobos orbits the Red Planet in less than eight hours, faster than Mars rotates. This means observers on Mars would see Phobos rise in the west and set in the east. These three images from the Mars Global Surveyor spacecraft show Phobos's oval shadow racing across Xanthe Terra on August 26, 1999.
