The Andromeda Galaxy in Infrared
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
To understand the Andromeda galaxy, astronomers looked at our largest galactic neighbor in infrared light. The Spitzer Space Telescope observed M31 for over 18 hours, creating a mosaic from 11,000 separate exposures. The resulting image shows M31 in unprecedented infrared detail, with this 24-micron color band particularly sensitive to dust heated by stars.
