Young Stars of NGC 346

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

NGC 346 is a star cluster within the largest star-forming region in the Small Magellanic Cloud, 210,000 light-years away. Its massive stars are short-lived but energetic. Their winds and radiation carve out a 200-light-year-wide cavern in the gas and dust, triggering new star formation at the region's dense edges. This region, N66, also holds many infant stars, just 3 to 5 million years old.
