The Last Moon Shot

COSMIC MESSAGE
The last humans to walk on the Moon lifted off in December 1972, aboard Apollo 17. This picture was taken by astronaut Harrison Schmitt, showing commander Eugene Cernan next to the lunar rover. The mission's Saturn V rocket, a descendant of Wernher Von Braun's designs, launched from Florida, turning Jules Verne's 1865 fiction into fact. The Apollo program's twelve moonwalkers remain the only humans to have set foot on another world.
