Astro 1 In Orbit

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Fifteen years ago, in December 1990, the Space Shuttle Columbia carried the Astro-1 observatory into orbit. This mission used an array of telescopes, including UIT, HUT, WUPPE, and BBXRT, to explore the universe in ultraviolet and X-ray wavelengths. Here, these instruments are visible in Columbia's payload bay, set against the constellation Orion.
