December Moon Meets Evening Star

COSMIC MESSAGE

Venus is the third brightest object in Earth's sky, after the Sun and Moon. This picture, taken near Albany, Missouri, shows a crescent Moon and Venus, low in the west, just after sunset. Venus is sometimes mistaken for a tower light near the horizon, but it is actually a planet. As this season's evening star, Venus will be at its brightest in mid-December.
