COSMIC MESSAGE

These are not aurora, but light pillars, a local atmospheric phenomenon. They are caused by flat, fluttering ice crystals reflecting light from the ground or sun. Under freezing temperatures, these ice crystals can form closer to the ground, creating the illusion of pillars.
