Crumbling Comet

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

This false-color mosaic, recorded by the Spitzer Space Telescope, shows crumbling comet Schwassmann-Wachmann 3. It spans about 6 degrees along the comet's orbit and captures around 45 of its more than 60 cataloged fragments. The brightest fragment, C, is at the upper right, and fragment B is below and left of center. Spitzer's infrared view helps scientists look for clues about how the comet broke apart.
