Gamma-Ray Moon

COSMIC MESSAGE
If you could see gamma rays, the Moon would appear brighter than the Sun. This image from the Energetic Gamma Ray Experiment Telescope, or EGRET, shows the Moon in gamma rays. EGRET was in orbit on NASA's Compton Gamma Ray Observatory from 1991 to 2000. The Moon shines in gamma rays because cosmic rays hit its surface, producing gamma-ray light.
