GRO J1655-40: Evidence for a Spinning Black Hole

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

At the center of a swirling disk of hot gas, a black hole is likely hidden. Observations of the gas around GRO J1655-40 reveal unusual flickering 450 times a second. This rate, combined with a mass estimate of seven times our Sun, suggests a spinning black hole.
