A Manhattan Sunset

NASA APOD · Neil deGrasse Tyson (AMNH)
COSMIC MESSAGE

In Manhattan, twice a year, the setting Sun aligns perfectly with the east-west streets. This creates a dramatic flood of sunlight down the avenues, an event sometimes called 'Manhattanhenge.' The tall buildings usually block the Sun, but on these days, it dips below the horizon right in the middle of the street grid. This alignment is similar to how ancient structures like Stonehenge marked the solstices.
